Balkan tour Montenegro + Albania + Macedonia (2)

Day 1: Start of the tour, Kotor
Arrival from Dubrovnik (border crossing Debeli Brijeg), tour in the Boka Kotorska Bay: The trip begins passing through Herceg Novi - The first town on the west of Montenegrin coast. First stop is in Risan, a little town on the border of Kotor Bay, known for it’s archeological site with roman mosaics. After the visit of roman mosaics in Risan, short transfer to Perast, „the baroque town“. Perast existed as village long time before the Baroque period, but it grew into an important maritime center during 17th and 18th century. Boat transfer to the island Gospa od Skrpjela (Our Lady of the Rocks), and visit of the church and museum on the island. Boat transfer back to Perast, and free time or visit of town museum. Transfer to Kotor. Visit of the old town, surrounded by 4,5 km long town walls and its cathedral from 12th century. Lunch in a restaurant, and transfer to Budva – the capital of Montenegrin tourism. Free afternoon, dinner and overnight in a hotel in Budva.

Day 2: Budva – Cetinje
Breakfast in the hotel, departure towards the old town Budva. Visit of the old town founded in 4th century B.C. Departure towards Cetinje, former capital of Montenegro. After the arrival to Cetinje, visit of the town and one of numerous museums of Cetinje. Free time for coffee, and departure towards Njeguši, village situated on the Lovćen Mountain. Traditional lunch in a restaurant in Njeguši – village famous not only for its history, but also for production of smoked ham and cheese. After lunch, transfer back to the coast by the old sinuous road. Possible stop for a coffee in Tivat, modern town in Boka Kotorska Bay. After the break, return to Budva, dinner and overnight in the hotel.

Day 3: Skadar lake – Podgorica
After two days of cultural visits, the day 3 is dedicated to the nature. After the breakfast, departure towards Northern Montenegro driving along the coast, and turning towards the Skadar Lake, the largest lake in the Balkans. After a photo break near the lake, the trip continues across Podgorica, the capital of Montenegro. From Podgorica, the road goes through the Canyon of Morača, deep up to 1000m. Visit of the Morača Monastery founded in XIII century, one of the most important monasteries in Montenegro. The trip continues on the mountain road up to the lake Biogradsko Jezero, situated in the national park Biogradska Gora, at the altitude of 1100m. Lunch in the restaurant near the lake, and free time for a walk around the lake. Afternoon, transfer back to Budva, dinner and overnight in the Hotel.

Day 4: Bar – Ulcinj – Albania
Departure in the morning towards Bar – town situated at the south of Montenegro, and visit of the old town Bar. Transfer to Ulcinj, the southest town in Montenegro, visit of the old town and lunch in a local restaurant. After lunch transfer to Albania. Transfer in Kruja medieval town. This is one of the most visted towns in Albania also for the reason because its history is closely realted with the national hero Skanderbeg. Visit in the castle houseing the national Historical museum and the Ethnographic museum to get more info about the tradtions of the area. After that some free time at the typical bazaar for souvenir shopping. Late in the afternoon transfer to Tirana (the capital of Albania) for dinner and overnight.

Day 5: Tirana – Durres
After breakfast in the hotel, depart for the sightseeing tour of Tirana, starting from the Skanderbeg square. Visit in the National History Museum with rich objects that prove the long history, E`them Bey Mosque, Clock Tower etc. Then continue to the main boulevard where are found the different ministries, Academy of Fine Arts, Main University etc. After Tirana departure trip to the ancient city of Durres, that is also the most important seaport in Albania. Visit the Amphitheatre, the biggest in the Balkan Peninnsula (capacity 15.000 spectators) with a rare wall mosaic, which belongs to the 2nd century A.D and the Archeological Museum. Dinner and overnight in Durres.

Day 6: Berat
After breakfast in the hotel depart towards Berat. Few kilometers before entering the town, possibility for visiting one of the nicest Albanian wineries. There the clients can taste some local cheese with the Albanian wine. Afterwards continue to Berat. While you approach the centre of the city, the typical buildings impress you. Visit to the castle, built up on a rocky hill 260m above the sea level. Churches here have survived within its powerful stony walls. With interest, is the church, which preserves wooden-engraved iconostasis, housing the “Onufri” museum. Visit to the other objects: Lead Mosque, Bachelor’s Mosque, Gorica Bridge and some of the dwelling houses of the 18th and 19th centuries. Dinner and overnight in Berat.

Day 7: Elbasan – Macedonia (Ohrid)
After breakfast at the hotel, depart early towards Macedonia. On the way stop in the Elbasan with a some nice remaining of the castle of the town. Have a coffee break inside a coffee shop inside the wall of the castle. Then continue to Macedonian – Albanian border. Afternoon visit of the cave church in Kalishta and visit of Struga. Accommodation and dinner in hotel in Ohrid lake coast.

Day 8: Full day Ohrid and Ohrid lake sightseeing
Morning walking tour (3 hours) in old Ohrid with visit of most famous Ohrid sites – Church of Mother of God, the Icon gallery, the ancient theatre, Ohrid fortress, new St. Clement’s church, church of St. John, Kaneo and the main church of St. Sofia. Time at leisure in old Ohrid or optional lunch. Afternoon departure to St Naum monastery at the south part of the lake. Visit in the monastery and optional boat ride above the springs of Black Drim river. Dinner and overnight in Ohrid.

Day 9: Mavrovo - Skopje
In the morning departure to Mavrovo NP. Drive along the lake made by Drim river. Visit of the biggest Macedonian monastery – the Bigorski monastery. Arrival in Skopje in the afternoon. Skopje sightseeing with walking tour in old Skopje bazaar, Skopje fortress Kale and visit of St. Spas church. The walking tour will continue to the new part of the city with visit of the memorial house of mother Teresa. Dinner and overnight in Skopje.

Day 10: Leave from Skopje
Check out from the hotel and leave Macedonia (or optional visit in Matka gorge near Skopje if the clients have a free morning).

Day 2: Dubrovnik - Budva / Montenegro - Shkodra / Albania – Tirana
Morning sightseeing tour of Dubrovnik, included in the UNESCO’s List of World Cultural Heritage. You will visit the Franciscan Monastery with Europe’s third oldest pharmacy, the Rector’s Palace and the Cathedral. Departure for Tirana; we drive inland via Budva, crossing the Albanian border at Shkodra, once the capital of the Illyrian Kingdom (3rd century B.C.).
Dinner and overnight in Tirana.

Day 3: Tirana – Kruja – Durres
Morning sightseeing tour of Tirana, the capital of Albania, including Skender Bey Square, the Mosque of Ethem Bey and a visit to the National Museum representing the flow of Albanian history and housing the findings from archeological sites across the country. After Tirana travel to Kruja medieval town. Visit the remaining of the castle and the Ethnographic museum. Free time in the traditional bazaar. In the afternoon travel to Durres.
Dinner and overnight in Durres.

Day 4: Durres – Berat – Ohrid
Morning transfer to Berat, one of the oldest towns in Albania and Unesco protected. Visit the castle of the town located on top of a hill and “Onufri” museum dedicated to one of the most famous Albanian painters of the 16th century. Walk in Gorica bridge and in Mangalem and Gorica neighborhoods. Afternoon departure for Ohrid, driving via Elbasan and crossing the Macedonian border at Cafasan.
Dinner and overnight in Ohrid.

Day 5: Ohrid
Full day in the lakeside resort of Ohrid, classified as UNESCO’s World Cultural Heritage site. Through the activity of St. Clement and St. Naum of Ohrid, the first pan-Slavic University in Europe, the famous “Ohrid Literary School” was founded here. Morning sightseeing tour includes the church of St. Sofia (11th century), the most eminent mediaeval monument in Macedonia with magnificent Byzantine fresco paintings and St. Clement Church with its icon of Annunciation. In the afternoon a short drive to visit St. Naum Monastery built on the shores of Ohrid Lake in 900 A.D. and dedicated to the Slavic missionary and educator St. Naum of Ohrid. Return to hotel.

Day 6: Ohrid – Skopje
Morning departure for Skopje. Sightseeing tour of Skopje, including the Kale Fortress, the Church of the Holy Savior with its iconostas, one of the finest samples of traditional walnut woodcarving, Old Bazaar and Stone Bridge. We drive to the slopes of the Vodno Mountain where we visit the Monastery of St. Panteleimon with its 12th century iconostas and frescoes ranking among the highest achievements of Byzantine art of this period.
Dinner and overnight in Skopje.

Day 7: Skopje - Kolašin / Montenegro
Morning departure for Kolašin, driving via Peć and Berane and along the impressive Morača River Canyon. Afternoon arrival at Kolašin, spreading on the left bank of the river Tara, situated at the altitude of 954m. The whole area is surrounded by the thick pine forest of the Bjelasica Mountain and is a popular skiing and air spa resort. Dinner and overnight in Kolašin.

Day 8: Kolašin - Cetinje - Kotor – Dubrovnik
Morning departure for Cetinje where we visit King Nikola Museum, once the residence of the Montenegrin King Nikola I Petrović. Continuation to Budva and Kotor, classified as UNESCO’s World Cultural Heritage,where we visit its Romanesque Cathedral dedicated to St. Triphun, the city’s patron saint. We continue to Dubrovnik driving along the picturesque Bay of Kotor.
Dinner and overnight in Dubrovnik.

Day 9: Dubrovnik - Departure
Breakfast followed by departure transfer to Dubrovnik Airport.

Day 1:

Day 2:
In the morning we visit the city of Zagreb, the capital city of the Republic of Croatia.It was been developed from 2 twin cities. Gradec from the XIII sicle and Kaptol from the medieval sicle.
Walk around the historic part of the city where we can find: the church of San Marcos with its ceiling mutlicolours, the cathedral, the baroque church of Santa Catalina, the Parlament and the Government Palace. Free evening. Dinner and accommodation in hotel.

Day 3: Zagreb/Plitvice/Zadar
Departure in the morning in direction of the Plitvice lakes. At the arrival we will realize the visit at the awesome National lakes Park of Plitvice, where sixteen lakes are communicated by 92 cataracts and waterfalls. Free time. Day 4: Zadar/Trogir/Split
In the morning we will visit Zadar, where we can find the preromanic church of San Donato witch look likes a castle, the roman forum, y the famous Sea Organ. Continuation toward Togir (short stop), the little medieval city rich of history and culture. Arrival at Split, city included in the list of cites of world inheritance of the UNESCO. Dinner and accommodation in the hotel.

Day 5: Split/Medgujore/Mostar
At the morning we realize the visit with local guide including: the famous Dioclecian Palace, the Temple of Jupiter and the Peristyle. Free time. In the evening departure for Medgujore (short stop) . In the 1981 in the village of Medgujore the Virgin Maria shows up to the seers to transmit the messages for peace in the world.

Day 6: Monstar/Dubronvik
In the morning we realize the guided visit of Monstar. In the ottoman era this city has been growing up in the shores of Neretva like an important business point in the road of caravans. Visit at the antique helmet witch is in the list of UNESCO with the famous old bridge and the antique bazaar. Departure from the Adriatic coast to Dubronvik, the city called “Pearl of Adriatic” . Dinner and accommodation in the hotel.

Day 7: Dubronvik
In the morning we realize the guided visit walking of Dubronvik, the antique city declared Heritage of humanity from UNESCO where we will see the most important pieces of Medieval Art: the Onofrio Source , the Monasteries of the Franciscans and the Cathedral. Dinner and accommodation in the hotel.

Day 8: Dubronvik/Kotor/Budva/Tirana
Departure to ALBANIA from Kotor, the city surrounded of walls and strengths, Included in the 1979 in the list of heritage of UNESCO. We make the guided visit. We continue to Tirana via Budva (short stop), we cross the Albanian frontier in Shkoder , at the time capital city of the Ilirc kingdom (3rthd century A.C). Dinner and accommodation in Tirana.

Day 9: Tirana/Ohrid
In the morning we visit the city, the capital of Albania, including the Scanderbeg square, the Ethem Bay mosque and the National museum that represent the history of Albania housing archaeological pieces from all the country. In the evening departure to Ohrind, via Elbasan and cross the Macedonian frontier to Cafasan. Dinner and accommodation in Ohrind.

Day 10: Ohrid
All day in the seaside shores of the Ohrid lake, city classified from UNESCO like world cultural heritage. Where debit of the San Clemente activates and San Naum Of Ohrind, was founded the first Slavic university and the famous literal school of Ohrind. In the morning visit of the city including the church of Sta, Sofia of the XI century, the biggiest impressionat medieval monument in Macedonia. Evening free. Permutation.

Day 11: Ohrid/Skopoje
In the morning departure for Skopje, capital city of Macedonia. The visit of the city includes Kale Fortress, SanSalvador church with its icons, magnificent samples in the traditional carving art in Walnut wood. The antique bazaar, the brigde. Dinner and accommodation in Skopje.

Day 12: Skopje/Belgrad
Departure to the capital of Serbia via Nis city located in the shores of Nisava lake. The route along the antique street, where we will find the National Theatre and the Tribunal until the Cele fortess,the wprld unique monument., built by the turks with the skulls of the died Serbians solders in the war of 1809. Lunch in the local restaurant. We continue to Belgrade. Dinner and accommodation at hotel in Belgrade.

Day 13: Belgrade
In the mornig we continue the guided visit of Belgrade where we will see the Kalamegdan Fortess, we will enjoy the atmosphere og the famous Knes Mihajlova street and we will visit the biggest orthodox church in the world, temple of San Sava. Free evening. Dinner and accommodation in hotel.
